I'm not an expert teacher or lecturer of chemistry. I was only a student from SMA NEGERI 15 SURABAYA who had been one of the Bronze Medalist Participants of Olimpiade Sains Nasional X (2011) of Chemistry In Manado, North Sulawesi, 11 - 16 September 2011 and graduated in 2012. Now, I'm studying at Universitas Airlangga in Surabaya, Indonesia. I do love chemistry and I would like to help them who had difficulties in studying chemistry. That's why, please understand me if you found some misconcepts in my entries. Suggestions are always necessary in order to develop this blog. And I'm sorry because my English isn't so well.

Xanthene: A Synthetic Dye



Xanthene (10H-9-oxaanthracene) is a yellow organic heterocyclic compound. Its chemical formula is C13H10O. It is soluble in diethyl ether. Its melting point is 101-102 °C and its boiling point is 310-312 °C. Xanthene is used as a fungicide and it is also a useful intermediate in organic synthesis.

Derivatives of xanthene are commonly referred to collectively as xanthenes, and among other uses are the basis of a class of dyes which includes fluorescein, eosins, and rhodamines. Xanthene dyes tend to be fluorescent, yellow to pink to bluish red, brilliant dyes.

Synthesis:
Many xanthene dyes can be prepared by condensation of derivates of phthalic anhydride with derivates of 3-aminophenol. But to synthesis this Xanthene.
